What is GDPR?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) protects the personal data and privacy of EU citizens. It applies to organizations within and outside the EU that handle EU citizens' data. GDPR defines personal data broadly, grants individuals rights over their data, mandates clear consent for data processing, and requires some organizations to appoint a Data Protection Officer.

It also stipulates prompt reporting of data breaches and imposes severe fines for non-compliance. Key principles include privacy by design and default, ensuring data protection is integral to organizational processes and systems.
